~~I have streamlined both my custom solo dress price as well as the style of dress that I am currently making. I am trying to stay away from the really fancy / heavily embroidered styles so as to fill a need in the dress market for somewhat reasonably priced yet up to date dresses. Pretty much everything that I make now would be considered budget friendly.
A custom pleated or soft skirted type solo dress (with structured skirt underneath so skirt will hang properly) would cost approximately $900.00 and would include a custom solo dress with Swarovski crystals, cape, and bloomers. Shipping is an additional $25.00. The only fluctuation in the pricing would be if the customer desires a specific fabric or fabrics that are considerably more expensive than what I normally use (this is not usually an issue).
The customer can bring their dancer to my home for in person measuring or I can do a "long distance" dress, but require the customer to have the dancer carefully measured. The customer can do this themselves (if they know how and are comfortable doing it) or have a seamstress or someone familiar with sewing/measuring do it for them. I will provide a very detailed set of measurement forms with instructions as well as step by step photos that walk you through the entire process of how to measure (it's really not that hard!).
The dressmaking process would begin with the customer emailing with when a dress is needed as well as any preferences (if any) that they would have in regards to colors, fabric types, etc. Also, including photos of dresses that they like is a big help for me to get an idea of what is desired. Then, I would draw up a design and email it for customer's and/or teacher's approval. My dresses look pretty much just like my drawings unless we make changes later in the dressmaking process so you can be assured that what you see is pretty much what you will get.
Once the design/colors are decided upon, I would email the customer the detailed measuring forms that would need to be filled out as soon as possible (depending on when the dress is actually needed) and returned to me along with a $450.00 deposit ($100.00 of which is non refundable) to get started ordering/purchasing fabrics, and altering a pattern to fit. If the dress is not scheduled to be started right away, the customer would need to send the deposit early in order to hold the sewing spot in my schedule and allow me to order/purchase the fabrics with the measurements being sent closer to when the dress would actually be started. Once I have everything in hand, the actual dressmaking process is pretty quick and only takes about three to four weeks.
The customer may pay the balance due at any time or in as many payments as desired as long as the dress is paid off before it is shipped. I can accept a personal check, money order, credit card (through PAYPAL), or regular PAYPAL.
I will make a dress to fit the dancer's measurements as well as leaving let out/let down room in all seams so that the dress can be altered if necessary. I am also currently making the bottom ruffle/layer of the two and three tiered soft skirted style dresses adjusteable as well so that the dress can be shortened or lengthened (great for growing bodies as well as for resale value).
